Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lu Kang's Remarks on the Japanese Side's Negative Move on the Issue of History
2018/08/15

Q: It is the anniversary of Japan’s defeat in World War II today, and none of the Japanese cabinet members has paid tribute to the Yasukuni Shrine by far. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe sent a ritual donation, and some Japanese lawmakers paid homage to the Yasukuni Shrine. What’s your comment?

A: We noted that none of the Japanese cabinet members has paid tribute to the Yasukuni Shrine by far. We also noted that Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe sent a ritual donation and some Japanese lawmakers paid homage to the Yasukuni Shrine. I must stress that the Yasukuni Shrine honors the Class-A war criminals who are directly responsible for World War II, and we firmly oppose the wrong move by the Japanese side. The Chinese side urges the Japanese side to face up to and deeply repent its history of aggression and take concrete actions to win back trust from its Asian neighbors and the international community at large.
