In March 1993, the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Croatia signed the first “Agreement on Cultural and Educational Cooperation”.
In October 2004, the University of Zagreb established a non-degree program in Sinology.
In 2006, Beijing Foreign Studies University established a major in Croatian language.
In January 2008, China and Croatia signed the “Implementation Plan for Education Cooperation between the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China and the Ministry of Science, Education, and Sports of the Republic of Croatia for the Years 2008 to 2010.”
In May 2012, the Confucius Institute at the University of Zagreb was officially inaugurated.
In March 2013, Liu Limin, Vice Minister of Education of China, visited Croatia, and the two sides signed the “Program of Cooperation in the Field of Education between the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China and the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports of the Republic of Croatia for the Years 2013-2016.”
In July 2018, China and Croatia signed the “Program of Cooperation in the Field of Education between the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China and the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Croatia for the Years 2018 - 2022.”
In February 2021, China and Croatia signed the “Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China and the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Croatia on the Mutual Recognition of Higher Education Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates.”
In 2024, the University of Zagreb established a degree program in Sinology.
